ceramic placement question

hello all! i was wondering if those in the know could share some insight into something i discovered recently?

the other day, i was tinkering with a pickup that i had accidentally broken the connector prongs off of. now, i know i could have repaired it(most likely), but curiosity got the better of me, and i took the whole thing apart. most everything made sense to me EXCEPT for the magnet placement: on one side(north, i think) there was one continuous magnet running from east to west.....on the other side of the screw pole pieces, the magnet from east to west only ran(from east to west) half the distance of of the pickup, like it only covered the lower or higher three pole pieces of the pickup. any ideas as to why this may be?

what type of pickup is this? most typical style humbuckers only have one bar magnet in the middle that is shared by both coils. could you post a pic of what youre talking about?

i dont know a ton about those pups but they are kinda like a dimarzio sds1 in some ways, but seems like they are using the short magnet to tune the field. do you know if it was the treble or bass side that had both?

The half magnet is on the north side, low strings
