"Chambered sound" pickup

I was thinking about digging chambers in a mahogany/maple guitar which sounds too solid and let`s say "narrow" compared to many other guitars, and then I realized that i should try different pickups first.

What pickup would you recommend for a solid body guitar to make it more "airy" sounding? I really miss some ambient in its sound, it sounds good but narrow.
