Got my Champ amp built and running waiting for new OPT so can go to 6L6. While waiting want to build a cabinet for it and am stumped on which way to go 10 or 12 inch speaker? any opinions would be welcomed.:?:WP_20170123_16_04_49_Pro.jpg

With few exceptions (Ragin Cajun for one), I much prefer 12" speakers. I'd expect it to be even more necessary w/ 6L6.
What would the advantage be for a 10" other than size/weight? (But that may be important to you. :dunno:)

I would have to ask what else you have in the amp stable. If the amp is going to be your number one I would go with a 12. If this is an amp to add a bit of color and flavor to a budding collection I would go with the 10.

I agree with this, nothing like a 12 breaking up and it can still sound pretty chimey too. I like how you can control the 12's tone with types of speakers as well. midrange- Celestion, bright and spanky-Jenson, levels of glassy smooth-Eminence, and theres some great companies like Weber who can really customize a speaker. However.......... I will say I do like a 4x10 cab for a big spanky clean tone or a really tight gain tone with 4 ten inch alnico's. For a single big round clean speaker tone I have to admit I really like a 15 inch but I have never played one distorted. Others on this forum could probably give a better review of 15's then me.

very cool review of the 15 from Celestion. The pine cabinet didnt hurt ether Ill bet. I am curious to try it distorted. Maybe get a single 15 cab to go under my EVH 2x12 combo for some big thunk. Hey I could dig it.

I play my Muchxs Champ head through a Lopoline 1x12 cabinet. I converted it to open-back and put in an Eminence 1258. Classic Fender sound, but louder than any 5-watt deserves to be. Giggable, even.

I think the choices in 10 inch speakers that can stand up to a 12 is good these days. I like 10s, and I use them. That said, there still is a greater range of choices in 12s, as philthis alludes to.

How about one of each?
