Chance for an Explorer?

Hey guys.

As some of you may remember, I posted a while ago that I had a chance to get a 1980s Jaydee Explorer for an ok price.

Well I finally got my hands on it and here's a few pics (they're not very good pics but they give you an idea):

The neck/truss rod needs some adjustment, it needs a new nut fitting, some of the frets need work on them, the electronics are pretty much shot and need replacing, but the neck feels nice and the guitar has a natural 'woody' tone due to the size of the body.

Does anybody know anything at all about these guitars? What would a good price be for me to offer for this guitar?

Thanx for any info anyone can provide :)

Oh yeah, it's also had 2 headstock breaks (in different places) but has been professionally repaired and has had more wood laminated onto the headstock to add strength.

Anyone have any info about these guitars or what would be a good price to offer for it?

Sounds like it might be better to steer clear. It's obviously been put through the mill somewhat. How much was the "ok" price you mentioned?

Thanx for your reply Stevie.

I was thinking of offering about £150 as in the condition it's in, I honestly don't think it's worth anymore!

The paintwork is also battered to hell, and there's alot of dents in the body and a fair bit of buckle rash etc too.

Yeah £150 might be about the limit. Are the headstock repairs solid? That would be my biggest concern, everything else you could easily sort out yourself. Might be a fun project, but not if the headstock keeps falling off!!

The back of the headstock has had a length of wood grafted onto it with the grain going in different directions to add strength, so I think it should be ok.

The headstock breaks are due to the case that ythe current owner keeps it in. It's a hard case for a bass, so is alot longer than the Explorer is and it rattles around while in the the case. Which has lead to the previous breaks.

Yeah, the stickers would put me off more than the headstock damage. :smack:

I actually wouldn't buy it if I thought I wouldn't be able to get the stickers off without leaving a mark. But that's just me, and it's only a cosmetic issue.

If it feels good to play and sounds good unplugged and you're happy the headstock is gonna stay together then you could get a nice project guitar if the price is right. I don't know anything about Jaydee, but given the list of stuff that needs doing I'd start the bidding low - much lower than you're prepared to pay!

Well, if you're happy with it, and it plays ok, go for it.

If I decide to go for it, I'll start at £100 and go from there. I don't really *NEED* the guitar, I just think it's cool and it's somethingf different than the LPs and Strats I usually play :D
