Change magnet on APH-2 to AV

Hello people!
I'm new here, so cheers everybody! :beerchug:
I searched for a post like this and couldn't find, so I decide to make a new thread...

I've my neck-thru LP being re-topped now with a more figured maple and will change also the pickups...

My first thought was APH-2 Slash on bridge and SH-2n Jazz on neck (I like a more open and less bassy neck tone than Slash), but then I was a little afraid about the low strings being not so punchy with the Alnico II bar...

So, have anybody changed the alnico bar on a APH-1 or 2 to a Alnico V or Alnico IV? How did it sounded?

BTW, just head the clip of the '59/Custom hybrid and it's really cool

Welcome to the forum!

I have not had an APH set but i have done a bit of magnet swapping in low output paf pups.
In my SD pups i went the opposite way to you...i swapped the A5's out of my '59 and jazz pickups and installed A2s!

I did put a5s into a set of gibson 57's instead of the a2's....it made them sound much better because those pickups are normally all honky midrange, so it opened up the top end and made the bass more defined.

I guess adding an a5 to your pup will increase the bass and add a lot of treble. It cant hurt to try! Mags are only a couple of dollars and its reversible. Let us know how it goes!
