Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

I have been wanting to do this for some time and last weekend I decided it was time to finally do it.

All I used was an old rag, some Commandant 4 (car finish polisher), an old toothbrush and a lot of elbow grease. I really like the result!

Looks good. I did that with my old LP Custom once the gold started to tarnish.

I LOVE a Black Lp Custom with Nickle hardware...The 1968 CA Custom re-issue is my favorite LP next to the 1954 Oxblood! I want one...BAD!!!

Looks good bro!

That colour hardware suits the guitar perfectly now, do you prefere it now to when it was gold? or was it just because the gold was getting tarnished?

I really like the look of ur LP. And those tuners look really sharp.

IMO what you're missing is a pair of crome mounting rings.

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

I bet that took some time.

The brushed nickel covers that MJ put on my Phat Cats are not weathering very well. almost have a gold tarnish hitting them. I was able to clean them up a bit with some naptha and a rag and the old elbow grease. (naptha is cigarette lighter fluid in case some of you were wondering) robert_s. uses naptha for really stubbon stains on his Gibsons. Not the rosewood, but the nitrocellulose laquer if I remembered correctly. before you do it, askrobert tomake sure.

much slicker looking. Sometimes gold hardware tends to make lp's look a bit tacky in my opinion. Nickel looks classier on a black body, gold looks nice on a rich sunburst or gold top.

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

ahhh much better looks great IMO...i'm not a fan of gold at all. the zebra looks great with the black guitar too...all you need is another zebra and some chrome mounting rings and that will be one sweet LP IMO! very nice!

Chrome mounting rings! Now that's something I have to try, thanks for the suggestions guys!

Yup I want to change out the black '59n for a zebra one :) but this one sounds so good in there, I really don't want to spend another 100 euro's just for looks.
I'll have to see if I can trade it anywhere or maybe sell it and get a 2nd hand zebra one...

Actually the gold came off quite easily, took me approx. 3 hours untill I was satisfied. The bridge was the hardest part with some tough to get to places. I used Naphta to clean off the Commandant 4 and it really made the nickel shine!

I did it because I think the gold looked 'wrong'. Silver and black is just beautiful together. :)

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

Thanks! I really love this guitar. I don't even care that it's and Epiphone. It's got some good specs too: Mahogany body and cap, alder neck. :32:

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

nice, i like the look of the nickle. i don't really ever like the gold hardware

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

I'm a fan of the black-guitar/chrome hardware and white guitar/gold hardware. Excellent work!

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

chrome mounting rings and chrome knobs is all you need

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

Man, that single zebra pup looks killer on that beast!

Nice axe mate, I'll give you major props for that.

Re: Changed the gold into silver on my LP! (PICS)

I have a pretty expensive LP Custom Black Beauty 3 pup, and it's one of the best sounding/playing guitars I have, but I'm just afraid to play it much, only because I don't want to devalue it by tarnishing all the gold. I wish they would have made all the customs with nickel.
