I've been testing mod.s on my Air Norton (which is a norton now used on neck 
) for a while, everything I tried was mainly internal like metal bar, air, magnet touching etc.
Yesterday I raised the screw poles on low and high E sides the thickness of a jazzIII pick, then rised the other poles to balance. The poles are very close to the strings when fretted (last fret) and I really liked the sound (vintage-like opened up) and feel when playing (dynamic but also fast response). Problem is naturally I lose level when bending...
Question is I'm now thinking of using slugs from a donor pickup, is it a good idea? will there be any turning back if I don't like the sound?
ps; I couldn't find hex poles where I live, using slugs would be easier for me if possible.
