Changing Tubes in my DSL

Okay, I want to change the tubes in my DSL50 because it has been over a year that it had the stock tubes in it. Can someone reccomend me certain tubes I should put into it and run through the steps of what I should do in changing them? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Changing Tubes in my DSL

I found that for power tubes I really liked the Svetlana EL34's.

For the preamp tubes, depending on what kind of sound you want, the EH12ax7's sound great but htey are very bright, so I went with the JJ 12ax7's and they toned it down a bit.

Do contact BOB at Eurotubes, I don't know if he can get you the Svetlanas or not, but you will have to have your amp Re-biased.

Bob can tell you how to do it, but I wasn't confident enough to fool with such things so I ended up taking it to my amp tech.

The preamp tubes you can just pop in yourself, and you ca nmix and match the tubes in the different spots, but the power tubes definately need to be Biased.

You shouldn't need new preamp tubes.

For power tubes, I've always like the EHX's, but Groove Tubes seem to be quite popular.

Bob at eutorubes is fantastic and although he will recommend you change to JJ's (because that is what he stocks) he will recommend the right things to make your amp scream a bit more. He is great to deal with and although your preamp tubes might not need replacing yet you could just do a JJ makeover on your amp and you will no doubt notice your amp will become fatter and just better sounding...i did that with my ENGL earlier this year and i absolutely loved it!

The JJ's sound terrific!
