Charvel Model-5fx: Which Truss Rod Wrench Do I Need?

So my Charvel has been sitting in it's case for some time now, still in drop B. I'm not in the original metal band anymore. I was going to either take it up to either half step E or standard E tuning with either .010-.046 guage strings or possibly .009-.046

It was originally setup sometime ago for Drop B with .010-.052's but then later on I would up putting Ernie Ball Beefy Slinkys .011-.054's on it. I might need to adjust the neck after string guage switch but I don't have the special truss rod tool to adjust the neck. Do any Charvel Model series owners know which truss rod tool I need?

Also, my other guitarist in the cover band was taking a look at my Custom Made EBMM Copy and he said it had the weird truss rod end on it so I'm thinking maybe it has the same one as the Charvel? I know the action needs set too on the Custom Made EBMM Copy..

Definitely need a tool like that, 7mm sounds about right but always good to have a set incase you ever need to work on ibbys or gibbys!

Re: Charvel Model-5fx: Which Truss Rod Wrench Do I Need?

I use a 7mm wrench. None of the music stores I know carry that truss rod tool.

I´ve noticed the same thing. I almost went to order one from eBay, but one local shop keeper sold me the one he used for set-up jobs. He said that he really doesn´t need it due to lack of guitars requiring the tool in town.

UPDATE: So last night I took my Charvel Model 5FX to our practice spot after it had been sitting in the case for quite a while unplayed as it was unplayable and my other guitarist strung it up with D'Addario EXL125's .009 to .046 strings and used the 7mm truss rod tool and it was perfect fit and got it back to playable condition :) We're both in a classic rock/hard rock covers band. The Charvel is now tuned to standard E tuning. We also discovered that there was a plastic plate in the trem cavity that was blocking the original Floyd rose trem and there were yellow slip covers over the 3 springs, I'm thinking this was done by a guitar tech I took my Charvel too some years ago to get rid of that annoying trem spring hum? Anyway, my other guitarist did a fantastic job getting the action nice and low.

Now there's still other things to address on my Charvel, like the fact that the before mentioned guitar tech from some years ago took out the black phenolic nut and put in a fender LSR roller nut? and the EMG single coil in the neck, which I don't know if it is an S or SA as there is no color on the EMG logo?, and the EMG-85 in the bridge just don't sound right to me and I'm just not gelling with them.

Re: Charvel Model-5fx: Which Truss Rod Wrench Do I Need?

Damn.... now this has rekindled my forgotten yearning for an HS japanese superstrat shredder

Preferably:

Charvel 550XL

But Model 5FX or Predator will do, too....

....and of course, NOW they're hella expensive again

Re: Charvel Model-5fx: Which Truss Rod Wrench Do I Need?

The 550xl is one of my favorites to. But my Fusion custom and spectrum are just as nice and will have to do.

Dammit I googled that.... now gotta add a Charvel Fusion (Maple Board) to my list.

All it needs is a few minutes with a file and an assymetrical ESP neck plate and it'll be even better

The neck is the heart of it and replacing it would be on the same level as kicking a puppy or throwing a bag of kittens under a truck.

PS ....and 20 minutes later, I also crave a Model 8. Daaaaaangit

The neck PLATE.

Swap Fender-style square for ESP-style assymetrical, so as to file a beveled edge into the pocket heel

The already have a recessed area around the heel. Honestly it's near on perfect :)

Wow
I am impressed
Most folks wouldn't have updated a 3 year old thread
Much less the OP

So did it just sit around and taunt you with it stubborn implayability
Or did it go back in the case and get forgotten

What transpired in the last 3 years
Why did it take so long

Fill in some of the high points

I'm genuinely curious now

Auto-necromancy is miraculous resurrection!
