cheap amp switcher

Re: cheap amp switcher

"Good" and "cheap" don't fall together in this category. Morley makes cheap ones that are okay. Lehle makes good ones that aren't cheap.

I bought a Morley one and it works great.... the trouble with all the cheap ones is the ground noise hum you get when running two grounded amps together... but the Morley is cool little unit for $45.... i ended up keeping it on my pedalboard to turn my cord off for axe changes

I ran a Rapco A/B box at one point when I was in a band switching between acoustic guitar and electric. It meant I could run the signal to either the PA (acoustic) or my amp (electric).

I have a Morley A/B/Y....... same thing I think they get a bad rap. When I switch from one to another there is a little noise, but nothing thats real bad, and when I am not playing my whole system is quiet. I paid $40 bucks for it. Can't see why that won't work.

Re: cheap amp switcher

I have a Rapco. I haven't noticed any problems with it, But i don't use it very often. $50 is about as cheap as they come. It would cost close to that to Build your own from small bear parts.

Re: cheap amp switcher

The cheap ones don't have the required transformer to isolate noise and phase problems....You really run into problems when you try to run both a Marshall and a Fender amp together off of a cheap A/B/Y box and you get noise from phase problems....

Don't go cheap if you're going to go at all!

Re: cheap amp switcher

What are some of the better low noise ones? I've got the Morley and depending on what amps I'm using, sometimes it's dead quiet and sometimes it's not.

ya i found out the hard way.... at a gig! i didn't check out my rig 100% before one of my bands first gigs.

in the late 80's i used to use a chorus pedal and ran 2 combos.... a Marshall lead 30 and Fender of some sort... the marshall had a big bottom end but was slightly cleaner then the high gain SS Fender.. I did get some ground noise but i do remember that sound was so amazing! A guy i knew down the street that had a studio came over and i plugged in to both amps and all he was saying was, wow that sounds great!!!! I unplugged and played each amp on their own and they were not that great.. but in stereo they clicked!

How was the Rapco? The review I read on Music123.com ripped it.

As someone said, depends on what you want it for.

I wasn't running two amps at the same time. If I ever did A+B on it I would probably end up damaging something in the rig!

But as something to send the signal to "either or" it worked fine and still does.
