Cheap vintage pedals for me :)

I recently started working for my uncle's band again, setting up & tearing down their equipment. He plays bass, is in his early fifties, and has been playing music since he was a teenager.

We were talking about gear tonight, and I mentioned some pickups I'd recently traded for, and how I was very satisfied them. I then said I was gonna start looking for some new effects (here's where it gets cool). He responded with, "I have some old stuff packed away at home that I haven't used in forever. I know there's a Gibson Fuzz Tone & an EH Electric Mistress. Might be some other stuff, too." He didn't mention any prices, but the last time he offered me gear, it was a '74 strat for $200, so I know they're gonna be low.

Anybody have any info or opinions about either pedal? I know the basics of them, but have never used either.

EH Electric Mistress, get it, it one os the best flanges around (the mono or stereo version). Pretty reliable also, the Gibby fuzz, couldn't hazard a clue though.

EH is my fav non boutique FX maker...I use the electric Mistress...it is my favorite flanger, very smooth and has a very good sweep...on the Gibson Fuzz, if it's a Maestro FZ-1 it soulds like Satification by the stones...other that that I don't know much about Gibson fuzz tones

The Gibson Fuzz is the same kind that got used on the Stones "Satisfaction" according to Keith.

Hello Hello--
The Gibson fuzz can sound great through a good cranked tube amp. A lot of the "fuzziness" will be rolled off and you'll get a nice, big fat distortion. This depends on what rig you play through, though. [Actually, it depends on which version of Gibson fuzz it is, too.] At lower volumes you can get "Satisfaction" [if you want it....] and at higher volumes and gain settings the thing will roar! Hendrix used a Gibby fuzz in the studio, too.

Thanks for the info. I don't currently own any modulation effects, so the Electric Mistress is a definite. I'm gonna buy the Fuzz Tone, too, just because it's cool

Hello Hello-
Is it the Gibson "Maestro" unit [brown, wedge-shape retro-looking] or a later Maestro version?? At any rate, try 'em out and see what how they work. [Sometimes the early brown Maestros can be tempermental....]
