Cheapest Hum-sized P-90?

Hey,
I want to replace the neck pickup on a mahogany(with maple cap) LP copy i have with a hum-sized P-90. The problem is that im about to replace the bridge pickups on both my guitars and this is basically going to eat up all my money.
I hardly ever use the neck pickup on my LP since it sounds so muddy and im looking for the cheapest possible pickup i can find for the time being. Is there a Duncan Designed/Performer hum-sized P-90? Basically it would be a temporary neck pickup since just about anything would sound better than the stock neck pup. Eventually i'll probabably replace it with a Rio Grande Bastard or a Gibby P-94, but money wont permit for a while!
Thanks,
Nick

Re: Cheapest Hum-sized P-90?

I don't know about the Duncans but I was in a similar scenario looking for a really clear almost single coil-like neck pickup and I was pleasantly suprised by the Humbucker From Hell which pretty much fit the bill exactly. Another one I'd like to try is the Bluesbucker which is supposed to sound like a P-90.

On the Duncan side, people here have said good things about the Stag-Mag and I'd like to try that too.

Basically, anything will work that is lower on output along with chopped bass and slightly enhanced treble.

thanks for the reply but duncans will be too expensive. Im getting a duncan and a rio grande for the bridge pups but i need a cheapie for the neck that will take away the muddiness(hence i was thinking a hum-sized p-90 since they would not be as muddy and it would give me a rough representation of the p-90 tone). It doesn't have to be a killer pickup, just an improvement over the crappy stock neck pup that i have at present!

Look on Ebay for USED Duncans and Dimarzios...they're the best buy out there IMO.

I think that if it is going to be a temporal solution you better leave the things the way they are. You are going to spend quite a bit of money in something you can't resale. It isn't it better to wait a bit to have the money to do things in the right way?

Re: Cheapest Hum-sized P-90?

I know what youre saying mongrollo but its more a case of me being curious if there is a cheap decent hum-sized p-90 out there, hence why something like duncan designed/performer(or something similar) would be perfect, since they are very cheap and i wouldn't have to worry about resale value. I will eventually put in a good pickup but my thinking is, if i can find something real cheap now then i can make the neck pup usable until i can afford a better pup!

Yeah, I've seen the Kent Armstrong 'bucker sized P-90 go for 50 bucks on ebay. Although, for $25 more, you can just get a production Phat Cat and have something REALLY nice. ;)
