I'm not a shred fan but I did hear some tasteful bits in there - certainly this guy has skills.

and that changes what as to what i feel about his playing?
which metal player doesnt want to have the ability to break into lightning speed arpregios and licks?
what i feel about his sheer speed is, that he sacrifices the 'what a note has to say - express' for 'get as many notes into one second'
it's cool that he has the ability and yes, i am envious of his accuracy

now STFU and go back to your corner. i'm sick of people who tell me what to do and what to feel like. i wont give you a f*cking break, but i can f*cking break your teeth if you dont give ME a break with your idiotic bullsh!t

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

MAB=Yngwie? Heh. Maybe in his mind.

I think most guitarists miss Yngwie's point entirely. Don't get me wrong, he KNOWS he's awesome, and he can overplay, but he is so naturally what we all call 'shred'. I think he plays with lots of emotion.

MAB is a fast player... Fast playing DOES NOT mean you're not an emotional player, but pure over the top speed is a display of mechanical mastery, at best.

IMO, I think that MAB missed his point, too.

Wow, that's playing nice! :)

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

I never know what to make of these virtuosos. Mind blowing chops...that's for sure!

I guess the impression that stands out for me is the processed tone. It's so processed that it never varies. For me, it would not be a very expressive tone because I don't hear alot of variation...just the same blisteringly overdriven processed tone that never changes or shows a range of emotions or attitudes.

Doesn't leave alot of room for individual personality or expression to come through, IMO. Unless that IS your personality. :)

I dunno...I like a tone that varies more and sounds less processed and more organic and vocal.

Very talented player...but a flat sound without much of an individual personality or unique voice.

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

The biggest mistake purchase I ever made was when I forked out $10 for a NITRO tape back in the late 80s. Those Jim Gillette vocals were plain awful and the guitar playing was NOTHING but 1000 notes per minute. I listened to it for 10 minutes on the way back to my house and threw the f-er out the car's window (seriously). It was absolutely the worst piece of crap I ever bought.
