What size speaker is it, and what amp is driving it ?

That's the real old-school sound right there. I'm betting the power handling of the speaker is very low, but that speaker/ cab would be awesome for recording those vintage tones.

LTD neck-thru MH-350NT with Burstbuckers

JSX with ECC803S driver tube, ECC832 gain tube and KT77's

It definitely wouldn't last long if i cranked the JSX through it often. I could smell the dust burning off it.

Re: Check out this old ass tube radio speaker

shhe-it! Just one word for that sound- flabbergasting! I have a few old audio speakers. Once actually spoke with the great Ted Weber (R.I.P.) on the phone, and said he would recone my old ALtec Alnico hi-fi very heavy alnico magnet 12" speakers to a 12" SRO ( EV cone).
With the old radio speakers- that never crossed my mind. Those old radio speakers have to be real fragile-they have fragile old paper cones and usually the surrounds are toast., so you might be getting the swan song tone out of them like on an old tube amp that needs new caps .

Keep on gently playing them, and I agree that it wou;ld be a great recording tone great recording sound. It's an Alnico speaker right? You are on to something here. But again, these speakers are nearly always at the end of their service life.

..teh hellya doin' in Victoria?lol

I think it might be a Cleveland Alnico, actually. IIRC, i looked up the part numbers and the general appearance of the magnet a couple years ago.

Hah. I'm from Victoria. I moved back when my service was up.

Both clips sound kickass!!! Love the first one though; sounds raw and vintage bluesy.

Re: Check out this old ass tube radio speaker

So i took that same crude box, took it apart, glued and screwed it back together, removed the screws, sanded it, routed it, bondo'd it, and applied the faux tooled leather with a brush and formica glue.(spray adhesive sucks ass) I used a metal square and a razor to cut the joints after they were already glued down.

I need to pull the speaker cloth off and staple it again without the lines from uneven tension.
