Choosing between Jackson & Charvel

Ok, here's the dilema...
I'm choosing between:
(all of these are on a "we've had them too long" sale)
1) Jackson SLSMG ($625)
2) Jackson DK27 ($525)
3) Charvel Model A ($545)
4) Charvel Journeyman ($350)

The SLSMG is currently in the lead, and its one of the best playing guitars I've EVER picked up, but the others have good arguments going for them as well... the DK27 because I love low tuned guitars, the Model A because it comes stock with Metal Livewires, and is a killer playing guitar, and the Journeyman because I've always wanted a 1 pickup, 80s style "gunslinger" axe (and because its a ton of guitar for the $$).... anybody have any thoughts?

Re: Choosing between Jackson & Charvel

It really depends on what you're looking for: high output pups, a wide, fast neck, original Floyd? Do you need the versatility of multiple pickups? My M1 only has one pickup and one volume control. I rarely use anything other than the bridge pickup.

I've played the Jacksons and was less-than-impressed with them compared to the Charvels. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those guitars, but my recommendation is: keep playing them until you come up with a list of things you DON'T like about each guitar. This will make your choice much easier.

And don't forget:the look of a guitar is important, too. You want to be happy with it, and when you put it on a stand, a really cool guitar will make you want to pick it up and play it more. Most peple wouldn't be comfortable owning my Tiger, Kamikaze, or snakeskin guitars. But, they make ME happy, and that's the most important thing ...

charvel definitely, you get a much better guitar for less price. here's what you get with charvel:
quartersawn neck
duncans stock
great look
not complicated

what more could one ask for?

Got to be the Jackson SLSMG - I love that guitar - wish I could get one left-handed for less than the price of a family car :smack:

I've tried the pros/cons list, but they end up negating each other. For the simplicity I enjoy in one guitar, the complexity of the other is awesome. For instance, I love the stripped down SLSMG, but I also love the Floyd setup on the Model A.

The biggest problem is that I know I won't be satisfied, regardless of what I get. If I could be, I wouldn't be choosing between 4 very different guitars. Logically speaking, I think I'll end up going with the Journeyman. Its the most different from everything I already own. Plus, its such an incredible bang for the buck. Like I said, I won't be satisfied with any of them, but I WILL be happy with any.

Don't ya just hate choices like these? :)

I have a jackson im happy with the way ti works and plays but im not that exsperienced that much but i like my jackson!!!

Re: Choosing between Jackson & Charvel

The SLSMG is the only one on that list I'd consider. Keep in mind that the DK27 has a 27" scale.... in other words, it's a baritone.

Re: Choosing between Jackson & Charvel

I would go for the SLSMG. I have an SLSMG Flametop and it is just a gorgeous instrument. Incredible quality and it sounds and plays great. One of my favorite guitars of all time. $625 is a great price too. The other one's on the list are kind of "eh" if ou know what I mean. Not "great" deals and not anything to get excited about really. You can get a better deal on any of the other 3 if you look around but an SLSMG in the loe $600 range is a steal for what you get. MHO of course :).

That's what caught my eye :)

Thanks, everybody, for all the input.
I think the bottom line is, if I can get the $$, I'll get the SLSMG. LOVE that thing. I'll probably end up with the Journeyman, though. We all know how money is.

This is great advice. I find it's ringing especially true for me now. My Dean just makes me want to pick it up looking at it. The guitar I'm saving up for will probably make most people cringe, but for me it it calls my name ;)
