chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

hi, I've got a Warmoth bolt-on Strat copy (rear-routed) that has a single humbucker route at the bridge. it's got a maple neck, birdseye maple fingerboard, and alder body, with a Schaller Floyd Rose trem and a single 500k volume pot (no tone). I want to install a Seymour Duncan but not sure where to start.

I like to play a lot of Van Halenesque type of guitar...really that 80s c0ck rock stuff, like George Lynch, Warren DiMartini, Vito Bratta, Steve Stevens, et al. I'm not really looking into duplicating the exact tone of this guys, although I LOVE Steve Stevens' tone on Vince Neil's Exposed album (incredible playing as well!).

the qualities I'm looking for:
beefy and chunky
screaming harmonics
clarity...no mud or mush

I live in a tiny apartment, so I don't have a big tube rig. my amps include a Tech 21 Trademark 10 combo and a POD XT and Behringer V-Amp 2 through powered studio monitors.

the Tone Wizard recommends the TB-11 Custom Custom or the TB-4 JB Trembucker. your opinions on these or other models would be greatly appreciated!!!

thanks a lot! :)

Your best bet to cover all of that ground is a JB or a Duncan Custom in my opinion. One of those two should fire you right up...and welcome to the forum!!

Ditto.

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

since most of the c0ck r0ck of the 80's was recorded with a JB and steve stevens used a JB i would think a JB would be the way to go!!!!!!!!!! :)

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

Hum maybe, if you use standard E tuning, it may become to HARSh..
well.... Try a Bill Lawrence l500xl in the bridge
i have one
it KILLS.
in E or d tUNNings ir blasts, fat, chunky and opened sound, with maximum clarity, almost a EMg active. ahahahah thats to much.
i have soundclips if you want.
or, if you really want to go duncans.....
Duncan Custom, Custom Custom May be too Bright, i don´t know.
i use one but my guitar is tuned to D.
maple neck, rosewood 24 frets fingerboards and poplar body,.
it is a little bit bright, but to me , depending on amp(on marshalls it rocks) it really rocks.

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

The screamin, the Jb sounds great on a warmer guitar, but for a guitar with a maple neck maple fret board and bright body(just like george lynch's besides the fact that his body is maple) then u gottta go with the screamin demon

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

hey thanks for the recommendations!

I just installed the Custom and I f#%king love it! the exact tone and response I was looking for. but I still wanna check out the JB and the Screamin Demon just to be sure  (no one ever told me playing guitar would be like a perpetual hunt for "gold" :) does the tone quest ever end?!)

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

My personal "tone quest" ended when I found out how a Custom sounds in a mahogany guitar with an ebony fingerboard. A bad-a** Marshall or Soldano doesn't hurt either.

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

glad you like the custom, when i was playing a lot of rock i used one n my main guitar

Anyone like the TB3 Blues Saraceno model for bridge? Or C-5/

dude good call... no one EVER talks about the Blues Saraceno model. But what exactly are it's defining characteristics?

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

I will put it in my guitar tomorrow and post within the next couple of days as to how it sounds.

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

man a screamon demon sounds realy good in a strat-maple neck-floyd equiped guitar. your choice of music is straight out of the george lynch guitar style and he designed the demon to play that style on a strat with a floyd.

Re: chunk, clarity, and screaming harmonics?

I thought I had a patb3 but it was a patb2 distortion. I havent played it on my boogie yet but on my pod I hear it as being alittle more tame than the sh-6 I had in the guitar previously?
