Re: Cig Amp

I've seen those around for decades but I've never plugged into one

Way to go on the description, Chicago Music Exchange

The Smokey Amp will also power any 4, 8 or 16" speaker cabinet

Re: Cig Amp

A buddy of mine did a stadium tour here in the late 90's with one of those plugged into a 4x12 and sent back into in-ear monitors. They definitely have a use!

Cheers.................................. wahwah

Re: Cig Amp

I had one. Sucked. Small, farty tone. Best I could do was run a tubescreamer in front of it. Something about the input volume affected the way it responded - i.e. a guitar plugged into it didn't feed enough signal and it kept cutting out.

Garbage, IMO.

Re: Cig Amp

If used in front of an amp you can get a really sludgy OD tone out of them.

Plugged into a cab they are a good, portable practice/writing amp. I keep one and a 1x12 at my singer's place for writing sessions.

Re: Cig Amp

I have one that is in the plain, purple plastic housing.. Is a good "in a pinch" or take anywhere amp.. sound quality is obviously Not going to be audio grade, but it makes sound and you can keep it in the case and even plug phones in it.. I only wish it had a volume control . You control it with the guitar vol, but when I roll down, it cleans up.. Id like to be able to keep the dirt without breaking up the speaker..

And suprisingly, they drive a 4x12 pretty well.. :headbang: Blew my bud's mind when I had that lil thing on the cab and started playing..

More of a novelty, but they do work.

IIRC I think they were designed by Zinky

Re: Cig Amp

I got one of those. I don't use it much but its got a very Black Sabbathy sound. Want to play clean just turn the volume down on your guitar. Its actually a lot better than I thought it would be...that said, I still dont use it much.

I would echo this experience.

Re: Cig Amp

i use mine to test wiring and such on the bench in the shop. it's much easier than having a real amp around since it's so small and battery powered.

Re: Cig Amp

yes i has one smoky amplifier and really liked it though it works great and yeah it was the most cheaper amp of that time...it was a craze at that time to have one smoky amp...but after some time it lost its attraction ...

Re: Cig Amp

Brucies little beastie http://www.smokeyamps.com/. the Supro version IMO sounds better than the Zinky but both are bruce Zinky designs. Bad little rig for what it is.

All my amps are Zinky designs from the Prosonic combo and the handbuilt one off 120 watt Prosonic head when he was at Fender to my Zinky Blue Velvet.
Here is the Dinky Zinky 25 watt Velvet from Saturday night.

Bruce is by far and away my favorite amp designer.
