classic 57...

Re: classic 57...

Alnico 2. But they are fairly bright pickups for an alnico 2 pickup. I removed mine from my Les Paul Historic and put some Tom Holmes a2 humbuckers in it instead. Much nicer: fuller, warmer and still pretty bright and lively. The 57 Classics are still real nice pickups though...I believe Derek Trucks uses them in his SG and regardless of what some tone snobs might say, the 57 Classics can sound excellant. I prefer Duncan Antiquitys or A2 Gibson Burstbuckers or Fralins or Tom Holmes though. Lew

I tryed both the 57 and the 57+ but ended up selling them both...The Duncans always do it for me..

I agree. I was just saying that even though I might prefer one pickup over another that it doesn't make the less prefered pickup crap. Lew

Re: classic 57...

I wouln't say they were crap...in fact i likede them when I first got them...a fried got me a deal...I got 3 classic 57 for $25.00 new...because the boxes had been broken during shipping (He worked for GC at the time!). I put them in a guitar and they were fine until I heard my first set of Antiquitys...then the Classic 57 seem to lack something...I pulled them out, went Duncan all the way, and never looked back!

Thanks! Give me a call sometime. My days off are Monday and Wednesday. 303-443-2030. Thursdays and Fridays are probably the easiest days to reach me.
