Clean And Efficient Soldering Technique When Inside A Guitar.

This is really a question about how you organize the wiring in your guitar if you're going to be adding some wires to do a mod or the likes. Opened my Clapton strat last night to have a look at the wiring and compare it to the schematic. Now there are so many wires in the way if you're going in there with a hot iron it would be really easy to accidentally burn up some of the existing wires if you weren't careful.

So do you guys have any special tricks you use to make the job cleaner and easier? I was thinking of taping some wires off to the side or maybe removing the pot i'm working on completely from the guitar to give me more room.

I was gonna put a push pull switch in the boost knob position to enable me to get neck + bridge PU's together. I'm used to soldering inside amps but haven't done much inside my guitars so want to make sure i'm properly prepared before i do anything. I don't want to put any little burns on other wires by accident.

It's a good idea to practice as much as possible:

^Exactly

Practice practice practice. An iron with a conical tip that isn't burnt out helps a lot too.
