Cleaning and Protecting Nickel Pickup Covers

I bought new pickups with nickel covers I want to protect them for aging. What do you suggest for that? (Suggestions in the music supply brands please)

I tried Nomad Guitar Polish. It says it removes oxidation. I thought it may harm new pickup surfaces. Also it is very thick liquid and the remnants stays on the covers.

What about using Dunlop String Conditioner on Nickel Covers?

Re: Cleaning and Protecting Nickel Pickup Covers

There is nothing you can do to prevent the aging of nickel. That's one of the desirable qualities of nickel. Corrosion (from finger oils and sweat) and abrasion (from picks and fingers) can't be prevented. Using a polish that removes oxidation/corrosion just contributes to the abrasion process. If you want pup covers to stay shiny, you need chrome not nickel.

The only thing I can think of is to take them off and seal them away. Nickel ages, which is why guitarists still use it. It will eventually age over the years. Other materials (chrome) age, but more slowly.
