closest Duncan to DM 36 neck?

Probably A2P. Or one of the A2 PAF's.

The 36th Anni is kinda round and smooth compared to the Duncan neck pickups I've tried. So I'd aim for something fat and smooth, but not overly bassy.

i dont have a 36th neck, but i do have the bridge. the slugs in the coil change things enough, im not sure what duncan would be closest. i like the 36th, but dont love it. i de-aired and swapped the magnet for an a2, and i like it better, but im not 100% on it. i think id like a jazz bridge in the neck more than the 36th neck

The thing about the 36th Anni is it's a very DiMarzio approach to an untraditional PAF-type. That's why no Duncan will be dead-on. It has the Virtual Vintage as well as the Airbucker technologies. I don't think it has the Dual Resonance thing, but they do mention mismatched coils on the blurb.

What I feel the 36th neck is like compared to the Duncan '59 or the Jazz is it's much smoother and fatter, but the low-end is not really deep either. It's more lower-mid warmth rather than low-end boom. The top-end is kinda restrained compared to the Duncans too. That immediately makes me think A2. But it's not really an A2 pickup. It's an A5 pickup tweaked to more or less approximate a softer/weaker magnet tone.

So I still feel like something like the A2P may get you in the ballpark, but don't expect a clone.

the slugs in the coil + the airbucker a5 does give it a different tone.
