Hello to all,,

With regard to the :2 humbuckers,1 volume,1tone push/pull coil split ,3 way toggle,,diagram on this site,,,
I am planning a first build and will be my first electric also as learnt just playing an acoustic,so i have no idea regard switches etc,,so forgive if this question is obvious, just cant seem to google the answer!

Anyway ,when coil split is selected will the pickup toggle still function the same,,giving the following configurations;

1- one coil from neck pickup
2- one coil from neck&bridge
3-one coil from bridge pickup

Also which coils will be active,,,the one closest to the neck,,,and closest to the bridge ?

Thanks and appreciate any help,,

Jim

Coil split wiring

Hi Jim88, and welcome to the forum!

Assuming I'm looking at the right diagram, the answers to your questions are:

1) Yes, when the coils are split the 3-way works as you said... with split coils in all positions.

2) The short answer to "which coils" is that they will both be to the North coil.

Not all pickup manufacturers put the North and South coils in the same place (remember, we're talking about magnetic polarity... not directions on a map), but for most the North coil is the slug coil.

Most Seymour Duncan pickups have the North coil on top for bridge pickups and on the bottom for neck pickups, so if you're using Seymour Duncans then that will give you inside coils.

Hope that helps... and keep us posted on your build! [emoji41]

Re: Coil split wiring

Briguy,

Thanks for reply! Perfect just what was needed,,the pickups will most likely be seymour duncans,,original plan was for a sh1-59' set,,however I believe they have just 1 wire ,so probably settle for hot rod set,,,

The build is still at planning stage,,,but I would be pleased to post when it gets going,,,

Thanks again and all the best
