Cold storage!

Hello knowledgeable forum people!

As I'm sure those of y'all who live in the northern latitudes know, winter is coming. While it hasn't snowed yet here in the Bay State, it's really only a matter of time. This makes me think about the trailer full of band gear next to my house, and it brings me to y'all with a question.

So here goes: how concerned should I be about storing musical equipment (specifically speaker cabs) in the trailer over the winter?

I realize this probably sounds really stupid, but some times things that seem obvious turn out not to be, so I figure I'll risk being called a moron in order to pick peoples' brains. Also, I vaguely remember reading some interview with the guitar player from Tool who talking about keeping his Marshall in cold storage for some reason, possibly to preserve tone IIRC.

Your thoughts?

As ever, thanks in advance for you knowledge and insight.

Re: Cold storage!

I honestly don't see it doing it any good whatsoever. Some of the sturdier stuff like the cabs might hold up alright but there's no way guitars, drums or amps will be 100% damage free after a couple of months in those temperatures.

Re: Cold storage!

You know, I should have worded that question better. Sorry. Let me try again.

How terrible an idea is it to store speaker cabs in a trailer during the winter months?

(The guitars, amps, and drums all live inside.)

Thanks!

Re: Cold storage!

I wouldn't do it, mostly because of the moisture levels. And also the extreme cold hardening the glue in the speaker baskets.

Your best option, is to fill your trailer with junk that doesn't matter, and move all the music gear into indoor closets or basement etc.

Funny...advise coming from someone who lives in the hottest corner of the country, but I've lived in cold states.
