Combo, 40 Watt, Reverb, 6l6 based amps

JumpMarine

18 watts of Mayhemologist
I'm trying to compile a list of combo amps:

40w, 6l6, reverb, 1x12, Between $400-700

The first ones I can think of are:

Hot Rod Deluxe
Vibroluxe Reverb-used
Celtic Brenna(I'm guessing that it's a bit more than $700)
Traynor YVC40 1x12

Traynor YVC40 1x12.

The best amp made ever.

I don't know about best amp ever made . . . but it is a damned fine amp. The YCV40 WR has vintage 30 speakers, which I prefer over the stock ones, but Traynor makes a great amp!

the Valve King, even though its 50watts. I can also second the Traynor. Id say between those two. They the VK is also 200 dollars cheaper.

I had one for a very short time while I was building my 18 watt and have to say that they cut corners everywhere they could. Tonally, it was lifeless, reverb was terrible and it was not a full 50 watts. This is after tube and speaker changes. Yes, it is a tube amp.....but not a very good sounding one.

My Chieftan falls into that category...wait...no it doesn't. It uses EL-34's!

My brother Bruce makes an amp called the Crusader that like a 1 channel, 1 12" speaker version of a Fender Pro Reverb or Super Reverb. I have one...very cool amp! Mine has a Vintage 30 in it.

BUt, I'm betting you cant' touch a crusader for 700 either and that is what was in the original qualifying statement.

I think for that price range, your basic Fender Hot Rod series is about it in my book.

You're right...I forgot the $700 thing.

Can you get a used PCB Boogie Mark I reissue with reverb for $700? I had one and didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. Wasn't hand wired and I forget if it had reverb or not...

Maybe on Ebay? Lew

They are discontinued, but a NOS Pro Tube Pro Reverb or used an El Diablo with the 6L6's.

Re: Combo, 40 Watt, Reverb, 6l6 based amps

These are a little outside your spec, but they might be of interest: http://www.carvin.com/products/group.php?CID=VINT

I have a Legacy... they coem in combo form and go down to 50W on 1/2 power and will accept 6L6 tubes, but they don't quite deliver the vintage tone you appear to be after. They're a bit more modern sounding.

Thanks guys! There's some good info here to dive into and do some more research.

Re: Combo, 40 Watt, Reverb, 6l6 based amps

Ok, here are some amps that should fall into that price range...some of the amps Im gonna list are not 40 watts and some don't have reverb but for the price range you are talking about this is what I would look at

-Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue
-Fender Custom Vibrolux reverb
-Fender Princeton Recording amp
-Mesa Subway Rocket
-Mesa Subway Blues
-Mesa Blue Angel
-Marshall DSL combos
-Marshall JTM combos from the 90's
-Peavy Classics
