Combo Amp problem

I have a Marshall Bluesbreaker, and I'm just startin to really play it (got it a while back, but couldn't do much with it while away at school). I've found a problem...when I'm sitting down, in the direct path of the amp, it sounds amazing. If I stand up or move to one side or the other, the treble disappears and all I get is this bassy, muddy sound (thanks, physics). Anyway, is this something I'm best off learning to live with, or is there something that can be done about this? Basically, I guess my question is, how can I get my amp to sounding good all around, as opposed to only good when directly infront of it.

Re: Combo Amp problem

First thing I'd do is get a good amp stand. This will get the amp up off the floor, and angle it upwards, so you can hear it better. There is also a baffle made for combo amps, that helps spread the sound ( I can't think of the name of it right now,....someone jump in here with a name and a link lol. ) Basically, you sit the amp on top of the baffle. Try the amp stand first, and see if things improve. Amps are pretty directional, so moving away to the side will decrease your ability to hear it. .........:)

Re: Combo Amp problem

Until you get a stand you could do as i do, and just kick the amp back against a wall so its angled at your ears more.

Re: Combo Amp problem

I spent $20 buck on a stand for my 2x12 JCM 800. Best $20 I ever spent on improving sound. The amp projects better and if you're playing live and miking your amp...you can use it as a monitor for your sound behind you.

Re: Combo Amp problem

check out that link that puckboy put.

also you could try and elevate it on a chair or something, dunno if it would work just an idea.

Re: Combo Amp problem

Sounds like a great idea with the stand. With my angled 4x12, I love standing to the side of the amplifier, just enough lows prominent without losing the rest of the spectrum to make the sound so much fuller. It really must be a problem with the speakers not shooting up towards your ears...
