Hamer USA Accept NO substitute. Build quality is excellant. Pickups are stock Duncans. Great hardware. Top quality wood. Choice of a modern neck carve or vintage carve. What else ya need. Pron?

Mine has WCR pickups in it but came with the original Duncan 59'ers.

WOW!

Re: compare. gib/epi explorer, dean Z, hamer standard

I would buy a new or used Hamer sight unseen long before I would consider doing that with a new Gibson. Only MY opinion. I could love a guitar and you would hate that is why I stuck to the consistent things about Hamer. The things I cited are part of every Hamer. Last time I was at GC I played a Black Gibber Explorer and a Natural finished one. They were nice but did nothing for me in the wow fator.

BTW, I have several Dean Zs. My favorites are my '96 USA Korina Z and a Korean made '79 series Z with P90s on it. Two VERY differant guitars yet same shape. Nice guitars overall. Wish I had found them to my liking in '98 instead of late '03. :13:

The Hamer above feels like a $2000+MAP guitar should. I got that 2001 for $1250 in April. They range from $1000- $1700 used depending on condition and custom options. Frets are done right with no edges, finish is smooth, fit and structural stability are nice too.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Edited cause I was to excited when I first posted leaving out a point or two. :)

That reminded me of that beautiful green usa hamer that was on the trading post maybe a year or so ago. can't find a link, but man that thing was beautiful. Yours is no slouch either:cool2:

I'd take the Gibson over the import Hamer anyday.

I agree that while USA Hamers are better made than standard Gibsons, they cost twice as much.

My $2000 Hamer (new)................................................................My $1000 Gibson (new)..........................................Another $1000 Gibson (new)

My 97 USA Standard Mahogany, mint condition, got it for $700

I would also buy a USA Hamer sight unseen before I even played another Gibson. I've tried so many and I can't find a good one that really speaks to me. Maybe they just don't sell any of the good Gibsons in St. Louis. Or maybe it's just that the Hamers fit me like a glove. I don't know. But my opinion, and its just my opinion, the Hamer USA Standard is teh best Explorer style guitar you can buy, for any money.

Travis and I are such Hamer Pimps or are we da hos? :)

Check out this page from a JeffB thread.

There are some other great Standards in there too.

To be fair to Gibber they started my love for the Explorer shape interestingly I have never owned a Gibson Explorer. I got a Hamer first.

My '79 I've had since late '82

I have played a few nice Gibsons over the years but have not crossed that final line of buying one. I do have an Explorer 90 which is a late '80's issue model 90% the size of an Explorer. I was also attracted to the Explorer shape by the way it looked like the right rear of a '57 Chevy my all time favorite ride. :scratchch

Good luck in your search.:cool2:

I am about to spooj!

WOW!

Note to myself, before dying the birdseye/curly maple top of the superstrat I am building, try to emulate that color. It should look smashing with the white binding it has on it and white buckers.

What a beauty.

Re: compare. gib/epi explorer, dean Z, hamer standard

I have 2 Gibby Explorers and they are great guitars.

I must admit, they lack the mojo of the Hamers tho.

If I could afford 'em, I get a Hamer any day.

Re: compare. gib/epi explorer, dean Z, hamer standard

For Explorer-shaped guitars, the Hamer USA Standard is pretty much the high-water mark in terms quality.

The next Hamer I get will be another Standard (altough I have 4 digit - but I baby that one )
