Compare the Lil Demon to the JB Jr. please?

So I've had the Lil' Screamin Demon in the middle of my Mexi Strat for about a month now and I'm not sure if I like it. My original plan was to get the JB Jr. in the middle but for some reason I decided on the Lil Screamin Demon instead. The body is Alder with a maple neck and a rosewood board. 250K pots with a Hot Rails in the bridge and a DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues single in the neck. I play everything from Jazz to Metal on my Strat so I was wondering if I should replace the Lil Screamin Demon with the JB Jr. so could anyone help me out and kind of compare and contrast the two for me so I can find a better middle pickup? Thanks a lot, Marc

I've used the bridge position versions of both pickups, so I can only comment on those. I like the Screamin Demon far better than the JB Jr in the bridge position. The JB Jr bridge is far too edgy. It's crunchy, which is great, but when you're soloing, the high notes don't sing, they shriek in an unbearable earpiercing way. If your guitar sounds real warm, it might be a good choice.

The Screamin Demon has edge, but it's not ear piercing. It sings.

Now for the middle position, a JB Jr might sound fine. It might sound tighter in the middle and neck position.

What kind of sound are you after for your middle pickup? Have you tried wiring the Screamin Demon in parallel instead of series? That will give you more of a clear single coil sound, not a humbucker tone. That might be a good match for the neck position Dimarzio single coil.

Thanks, I guess I'm looking for a chunky fat sound from the middle pickup. Good for Metal, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, maybe Funk. Its too dark sounding for me, theres not enough bite to it...and if there is bite it just sounds to...round and glassy. I hope I'm using the right words to describe it Lol.
