Comparision Antiquities / Seths

Hi guys. I´m under the impression that the Seths are kind of an "Antiquity, hold the age please". That´s more or less exactly what I´m looking for in my Les Paul.

Do they really sound relatively close, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Zerb,

I haven't played Ants, but I love the Seths in my LP for all kinds of classic/hard rock and blues.

My understanding too is that they are designed to be a "new PAF", i.e. take a time machine to the late 50s, buy some PAFs and come back again.

that is exactly what they are like...in the PAF type pups you have

-antiquitys
-Seth's
-59's

59 are the most aggresive of the 3, seth are smoother and Antiquity's are like 50 year old Seth's

Basically speaking...
The SETH's are like an un-potted 59 Model with an Alnico 2 magnet and Nickel cover...
THE ANT's are similar to the SETH's but have slightly mis-matched coils like the Pearly Gates and go through the mojo aging process...

I personally love the majic tones that come from mis-matched coils...
My FAVORITE pickups are the CUSTOM/59 HYBRID in the Bridge and the JAZZ/59 HYBRID in the Neck...

I dont think the Antiquity HBs have mistmatched coils.

And I also think the Seths are wound a tad different from the '59s, anyway, *ANY* pickup is wound different from one to another!!!

I tried all of them, in pairs. I prefer the Seths overall. The Ants have that "too sweet" tone, and I cant push them really hard. The '59s are fine, but a tad flat. The Seths are my fav's. They can wail, sing, scream, cry.... anything! They respond soo nicely! I had a set a while ago, sold them for Ants, and sold back the Ants to buy Seths!

Did you measure them? (I suppose you were taking the coils apart, no?) Honestly I very much would like to hear your experimentation regarding the mismatched coils of the ants.

Thanks guys, and particularly to Norman, that review had all the Pickups I´ve been considering

I think Seths are going in. Scrape up bit of cash, and order 2 double black without covers (They´re going in an LP Gothic)

Don't forget about the Pearly Gates. Awesome pickups in a LP style guitar. I had the Seth's also, but if you like a bit of grit & grind from your PAF's, I'd go with the PG's.
