computer recording woes [pity party time]

Her Little Mojo Minion
OK folks, so I previously used Cubase with no problems. And Cool Edit, and Audacity. Now when I open my little drum WAV file I created, each program "fumbles" through it, choppy with intermittent stops and starts. Like the programs can't handle one little WAV file. WTF?

The only thing I can think is, awhile back I accidentally clicked the windows icon that popped up that asked me to update my software and once it took my to microsoft's site, it kind of found that my version of windows xp wasn't registered. Then it would remind me to register it every five minutes, but I disarmed the reminder alarm. Now I feel like Bill Gates is watching my computer and he's slowly removing it's ability for me to download porn and record my metal.

This is all I know right now. But for now, I can't really record because it's like my computers being turned into a dinosaur right before my eyes.

Well I know Pro Tools has plenty of problems with Service Pack 2, or used to. I'm not sure if updates are causing your problems but its possible.

I'm seriously considering:

a. getting a little digital recording machine.
b. giving up recording at home all together.

It's seriously becoming more hassle than fun.

everybody: "awwwwwwwww"

Check the "buffer" settings in your programs preferences - it should be around 512 samples or less.

Roger that. Thanks.
