Confused about the sound of a '59 bridge humbucker

Re: Confused about the sound of a '59 bridge humbucker

I must agree with FuelGTRX. Today I tried a HAMER USA Standard Custom. The stock pups are two Duncan 59', sounds really hot, kickass!

If you line up all the SD humbuckers and compare them then one has more "x" than another, while compared with a third it seems lacking in "y". Boosted "z"s just don't work with my rig..... and so forth.... a pickup is one of many variables that we have it in our power to change....

Not sure where I'm going with this :scratchch ........
haha :laugh2: :saeek: :) :D

I love the Seth Lover bridge in my Les Paul. It has a very nice edge without being harsh. I am also a fan of the 59b. The 59b is bright but it has a definite bottom end. The 59b almost has a single coil twang to it, but it has definite humbucker punch.
I like the JB for Jeff Beck tones and it packs a lot of punch for "modern rock" power chords.

JB has and always has stood for Jazzy Blues.

*note to self, one of them's wise on us....*

Yep...at least lately. :smack:

It always stood for Jeff Beck when I was using them 20 years ago though.

How would you guys compare Seth Lovers and 59? I haven't tried the 59 yet. But I'd like a little more treble out of my SH-55n in a Les Paul (maybe the 50's wiring, new quality pots and caps?)

I've gone on the tonal 'wild goose chase' with most Duncans, and have realized that the C-5 is like a 59 with a bit more balls, which makes it a perfect pickup to put with a 59N. Since they're both A-5's, it makes sense.
The 59N has great balance from low to high, and is clearer sounding than the Seth neck. For guitars that can use added warmth, the CC/Seth is an awesome combination, since they're both A-2. The CC has the same output as the C-5, but is warmer and denser. The C-5 is still more articulate and has tighter lows. The mids and highs sound similar to the 59B, to my ears.
My favorite thing about the Seth N is the smooth sustaining lead tone.

Re: Confused about the sound of a '59 bridge humbucker

I've got a Antiquities humbucker in the bridge position and got a SH-55n cause I couldn't find a neck Antiquities... :yell:

I love the "smooth sustaining lead tone" in the SH-55n, but for me it's not as useful as would be a tad more treble/presence/brightness...

I also plan to test the Phat Cat in the neck, I think I would love it... But maybe too much output to go with the Antiquities... :smack:

Got a set of pearlies and antiquities. Both are tone machines.
