Cool Reverb Story, Bro. (New Speakers Day)

So I've been getting by with a pair of WGS Green Berets in my 2x12, but I've been trying to keep an ear to the ground for deals on Greenbacks, should they come up. In the past, I've had good luck getting the broken-in Celestions from Avatar Speakers, but it doesn't even look like they're selling Greenbacks anymore. So yesterday, I found a set of what appeared to be four identical ones on Reverb for $110 apiece. Not a bad price at all, but the guy wanted $60 each to ship them. Not a good price at all now.

I looked at his website, and saw that it was local to the Greater Houston area without actually having a showroom. So I called him up, offered him $100 each for two of them and asked him where to come pick them up. Now remember that traveling across Houston on the freeway without traffic will take an hour minimum, from Katy to Baytown even longer, so I didn't know what I was in for. Turns out he lives in a neighborhood less than five miles away. Deal done, cash on arrival, very pleasant guy, swapped them out this evening, can't wait to crank it up tomorrow.

new speakers are awesome

I have been on an OCD quest for EVM12L at the moment
I have no intention of purchasing a $300 Speaker that weighs more than twice what my current speakers weigh

but I have been watching videos on them and their variants, their Clones from WGS and Eminence

I love new speakers and as I say this I have un housed speakers sitting around that need a home

Gas is a curious thing

let us know what they sound like
if they scratch that itch

i do love me some greenbacks. there is a bit of magic in the g12m with the right amp

Yeah, these are the real deal. Only put about a half hour or so into making that decision, but I hear what I've been wanting to hear. Compared the WGS Green Berets I replaced, the top end is much, much more detailed and sweet, and the mids are warmer. My first reaction is that they're louder, but the sensitivity of the Warehouse speakers is rated higher, so it's either frequency-dependent, or I'm wrong. They seem much more touch-sensitive as well, better translating what my fingers and pick are doing to the speakers. I realize I spent enough to the point I should be expecting a pretty big upgrade, but I didn't think it would be as much as it is, and I'm happy to not be hearing what I found to be a little ice-picky top end in the old pair.

I like WGS
but some of their clones just don't sound like the product they are replicating

Their version of the V30 doesn't sound bad, but doesn't sound like a V30 either
Nice compliment to a V30 which is how I use mine
Paired in a 2x12 combo

When I research the EVM12L their version, even on YT, sounds muffled and not as clear when a-b'd

I like WGS

But they have their own thing going on

i think most brands have that thing going on. a weber v30 doesnt sound exactly like a celestion v30 which doesnt sound exactly like a wgs v30 which doesnt sound like a eminence v30. i like all those brands for what they are, but if i want a greenback, im getting a celestion g12m

Nice. And having them already be broken in is a plus.
Though I have always enjoyed the process of breaking in a brand new one. Kind of like getting a new baseball glove.

Each brand definitely does have its own flavor. Having owned both, I find I prefer the Eminence Governor to the Celestion Vintage 30. And now I know I prefer the Celestion Greenback to WGS’ Green Beret.

Don’t forget about Weber speaker. I learned a lot about speakers on their website, considering i wrote a term paper at high school (majoring in physics) about audio speakers
