Cool Tele, bad Tele.... anyone tell me about this?

Ok im not a tele guy, nor a strat guy but as im getting older the more "vintage" style guitars are looking good to me.

Now this isnt really gonna give me that "Tele" sound is it, loaded with 3 singles, is it just gonna sound like a strat, im guessing yes.....

Anyway i think it looks rather cool and different, what do you guys think?

And it is on the pricey side, though is it a rare model?

Oh and it is in New Zealand dollars, not U.S

Cheers

Re: Cool Tele, bad Tele.... anyone tell me about this?

I'd think that it would sound like a hardtail Strat, because the bridge ain't Telly bridge and the pups aren't Telecaster pups.

no fret buzz

This is a quote from the ad. Yes, no fret buzz because it has no strings on! If you care to look at the picture of the neck, you'll see big holes in the frets... even from a low res picture like that you can see it's BAD, specially from the second to the seventh fret.

The rest seems to be in good shape, though. Love those tuners.

So, if you wanna play it, a big leveling and crowning job is to take into account. Maybe even a partial refret, and 'cause the guitar has a maple neck, it's going to cost you, so... it's up to you to do the bidding. How's the NZ dollar to the US dollar?

It's about 1500 USD. (about 960€)

I like it and since it's a single cut I'd say it'll sound something between a Tele and a hardtail Strat (which is different than a trem Strat), could be interesting. I like it :)

The first 7 frets have entire canyons on them though, a fret dress isn't gonna cut it, you'll probably need to replace those frets (the 8+ seem to be ok though so maybe you can get away with a partial re-fret). I say if you're interested call him on the bad frets and ask him to lower the price by the cost of a partial refret...

That guitar wont have too much Tele twaqng, especially with a Lace Sensor Red in the bridge. I have the same pup in my Squier Strat and it's very compressed, great for distortion, ok clean when mixed with something else. The silver will sound like a fat over wound Strat s/c and the blue will sound like a loud & warm 50s humbucker.

Cool thanks for the replies, yeah the frets are buggered on the first 7-9, im sure it wont sell for his asking price so will try and cut a deal with him, i really like the finish on it, never tryed the lace sensors before, never owned a s/c guitar before either, so could be time to try one.

never tryed the lace sensors before.

Well... they're NOT single coil p'ups. They're stacked humbuckings, so they don't sound that sc to me... but maybe you like'em. By all means, don't buy this guitar without playing it.

Those were nice guitars. Here is a clip you might find helpful.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHYXGxbljD0

Thank You.

PS: Frank Lee has seen a few guitars with that same configuration that were not JB signatures on sites that sell Japanese guitars. If you are dying for one, you might get lucky if you check Ebay for a while.

Hey, that has an unexpected amount of twang, it actually sounds a lot more like a Tele than I thought! (aesthetically though, ugh... this one looks SO much better!)

Re: Cool Tele, bad Tele.... anyone tell me about this?

i liked that model.... i'm sure it does sound more like a hardtail strat with the PU's in it... if i remember right James requested the body be poplar...
