Corroded Quarter Pounders

So I built a P Bass back in High School over 12 or so years ago. I left for the military in 2006. My father decided to hang the bass up in the barn that was refinished all nice with a car lift and sweet garage type setup but never temp controlled or moister controlled it. So my guitar hung on a wall in Connecticut for almost 10 years. My pickups have some rust on the and looks like maybe metal shaving from I dont know what. Long story I know, didnt want to make it boring. How do I clean these bad boys up?uploadfromtaptalk1459016878440.jpguploadfromtaptalk1459016888965.jpguploadfromtaptalk1459016901702.jpguploadfromtaptalk1459016914220.jpg

Re: Corroded Quarter Pounders

You can take the covers off, and try a tiny piece of 0000 steel wool. The steel will also be attracted to the magnets, so you will have to pick off the metal shavings, but I polished and de-rusted a few pickups like that. Do they still work?

Take the covers off, use a little bit of super fine sandpaper to remove the oxidation, then lightly coat the tops of the pole pieces with clear nail polish or lacquer to prevent future oxidation (Fender does this on their better quality pickups).

Yea they still work. I was very surprised. I just purchased some CTS 250k pots and I will re wire the electronics. I'll post pictures of cleaning. Thank you.
