Cosmetic Question.

Hello,
I have 2 refinished very Snow White-North Pole white- Strats. They are both HSS. The H-Bucker in both are at the bridge, and I have 1 from Duncan, and 1 from Electric City Pickups.
Both bobbins on each are the same stark Snow White. The covers I have for the single coils are the whitest I can find from Duncan, and Fender. The molded mini buckets are very white, but I need the removable type on most S.Coils.
All of them are just off a touch and look out of place. No, they are not parchment by mistake. I have both.
So: Any good samaritans know of any place to get very white covers?
I have tried Mojo tone but they are out, not open, and there phone # is wrong. Still waiting on an email I sent. Thanks a lot in advance,
Steve Buffington-SJ

Re: Cosmetic Question.

Matching whites can be tough... I dont think ive ever seen a pure white used in guitar plastics. It either has a touch of blue to cool it off or a touch of yellow to warm it up. I find generally if you can find either all blue based or all yellow based they look ok together even if they arent exactly the same shade.

No idea what the motor city pickups color is but duncans white actually has the tiniest touch of blue in it. So look for single covers that have just that hint of blue.

Re: Cosmetic Question.

What paint and varnish types have you used? Some white finishes do not remain white for very long. The white nitro-cellulose finish on my Fender AVRI '62 Stratocaster has already taken on a grey-green tinge - to the extent that the overtly minty green pickguard no longer looks totally bogus.

As Edgecrusher points out, starkly white plastics are difficult to colour match when brand new, let alone after differential ageing.

I suggest putting your three pickups, the control knobs, switch cap and vibrato arm tip into the hands of a heavy smoker. Literally! Have the smoker rub the tar from their fingers all over the white plastic surfaces.

If you know exactly what heights to which the single coil-sized pickups will be adjusted in the scratchplate, you could even go so far as to mask the lower portions of those pickups to simulate natural discolouration effects.

Re: Cosmetic Question.

Hi,
Drex-That sure looks white for sure. I can't do a picture, but I can do better, I am on youtube from a BluesFest Venue a couple weeks ago where you can see me play my Strat and a tricked out Tele. Go to youtube, enter Eddie Gillan's Red Roosters. There are 8-9 songs up there. In "Had to Cry Today" you can see on my solo at the end a good moving picture close up of me with my all snow white Strat, the humbucker is real white. My pickgaurd and body are all true white. And I mean toilet bowl porcelain white I did not fe-finish my guitar, a guy named Joe Riggio did a great job on it. You all know my bad back troubles, so this is a chambered basswood guitar, and I got it down to 6.2 pounds.
Edgecrusher- right you are- the duncan single coils covers are blue based and the Fender whites are more yellow based. The white pickgaurd I got from Warmouth is also true white. On the video, I have no neck Pickup, the middle has a TwangBanger and together cover a lot of tones. The middle pickup is a "white" Duncan cover. I hope you can see the difference.
I can see the difference from my couch to the guitar-15-20 feet, so, not a big deal for most, but I took pains to get everything white.
Thanks for talking,
SJ
