Cosmo Black?

Ok i'm aware of the whole environmental issues with black finnishes on hardware & the change to cosmo black.
Now i was just about to buy a Gotoh bridge online, but thought i won't dive in with too much haste because the one pictured in the photo on the site looks pretty black to me & i've heard the cosmo black is more of a blackish chrome. Now i want the bridge to match all the other stuff on my guitar & don't wanna buy something that i'm gonna get in the mail that's not what i was expecting. I basically want to know if the photo from the site (below) is an accurate depiction of the product listed & if it is the actual product pictured? If not can someone post photos of what cosmo black actually looks like.

Re: Cosmo Black?

That looks like black chrome to me. It's hard to capture exact color in photos.

Ok just cause i've got a Floyd Rose Special bridge on one of my other guitars & that looks more like a grey. Darker than chrome or silver, but much lighter than the that photo. So that's what i thought cosmo black was & that's why i was asking whether the photo was accurate.

If you look at the GL-200MT at the bottom of the page here, that's the color of the Floyd Rose Special bridge:

Looks more like a dark grey chrome & that's not what i'm after.

Re: Cosmo Black?

whats all this about black hardware changes? can someone fill me in?
Most companies that do guitar parts don't do the old true black finnish because it's very toxic & environmentally hazrdous so they're doing something called cosmo black now, which is more of a black chrome apparently. The photo i posted doesn't look remotely chrome to me though if that is in fact cosmo black. That's what i'm actually trying to work out.

Re: Cosmo Black?

I have a black ("real" black) gotoh and the one pictured looks quite a bit lighter than mine, more of a "charcoal" than "black".
In fact it's exactly as black as the locking screws whereas the one in the photo is clearly lighter in color than the locking screws.

The floyd the gotoh replaced (an asian made schaller-copy copy) was cosmo black.
That was exactly as described, dark chrome, nothing like what's in your photo.

Ok just cause the Floyd Rose Special on My ESP is supposedly Black Nikel which i've seen people on other message boards refering to as Cosmo Black, but looks nothing like the Gotoh in that photo (much lighter, more like grey chrome), which is just adding to my confusion about this. That's what i wanna avoid though i'm after quite dark like the photo, i don't want the finnish the Floyd Rose Special has & i wanna avoid ending up with that light finnish due to vague discriptions & inconsistencies. The Gotoh in the photo looks fine, if that's what cosmo black is, i'd be satisfied with that.

Re: Cosmo Black?

I'm telling you, it sounds like you know what cosmo black is and no, it looks nothing like in this picture. On the other hand though the one in the picture looks quite a bit lighter than my gotoh which is a "real" black one (black plated).

If I were you I'd go out and look for a couple Ibanez guitars with cosmo black locking trems.
These are made by Gotoh as well and chances are they use the same type of "finish" as for their own units.

With poor lighting, I can see cosmo black showing up like that in a pic. Here is a pic of a cosmo black ibanez edge on a guitar that is still not together:

wish that pic was larger for the GL-200MT. Looks like it should match but its a bit hard to tell--that bar and the rest of the hardware looks more on the chrome side.

Yeah **** that looks like the Floyd Special on my ESP which is nickel & not even close to black... god dammit. I need something that actually resembles black. The guitar it's going on is white, & something that looks that close to chrome aint gonna cut it. I've already got a chrome bridge on it & it looks lame.
This is so annoying, it was enough trouble finding a good quality bridge that will fit my guitar without any routing & mods & at a reasonoble, acceptable price & now i've hit another brick wall & a new hurdle.
An OFR will fit & i'm pretty sure they make those in proper black, but they are ridiculous prices.
eBay's no good either, don't wanna waste x amount of days bidding against 50,000 people & end up with the same kind of prices at the end of the auction.
Might be forced to just end up buying one of the crappy Jackson JT580s off eBay, it's not an upgrade, but atleast it's actually black, i know it fits perfect & i can get one for next to nothing. Because this is proving to be more of a pain in the butt than it's worth. Guitars are too much of an expensive addiction for an average working class slob like myself.

Re: Cosmo Black?

i have cosmo black hardware in my Ibanez. and comparing it to the black chrome Sperzels, the cosmo black is sort of a darker shade of grey.

That bridge doesn't look properly intonated. Shame shame! ;)

Re: Cosmo Black?

Ok been looking at different bridges for color/finnish comparisons. The Kahler 7330 has a black/chrome & a black nickel. The black/chrome Kahler is what i originally assumed cosmo black was. It looks a bit brownish in certain angles of light, is quite dark & definitly resembles black for the most part.
The black nickel on the other hand looks like the Ibanez Edge JustWendell posted on here & like the Floyd Special on my ESP. Looks more like a silver/grey & is definitly not what i'm after.
Would this be an accurate assumption or is Gotoh just making black nickel bridges & calling them "cosmo black"?

Rationalization found!!!

Rationalization found!!!

See, I knew there was a reason why I have a spare "none more" black Floyd...
