right this is the only thing that will stop me getting the Hipshot hardtail i want for my gordon smith

the guitar is not drilled for through body stringing, which it would need for the hipshot bridge

how much would i be looking at to get the bridge installed and the guitar drilled to accept through stringing?

please say no more than 50 quid! :laugh2:

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

You might as well do it yourself, if you have access to a drill press.

What exactly is needed when installing the new bridge? What kind of bridge is the old one?

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

a POS!

its floating, but there is no route for it. i dont have a digital camera so i cant post any pics

basically its really stiff, like a hardtail.. but when i had the trem arm it worked like a disabled strat trem with 5 springs (not much play either way)

i play so much in different tunings with my band now that the fact its floating just slows me down.. i want it hardtail and left that way.

i dont have acess to a drill press and i got a level 3 in woodwork, and national average was a 6.. oops :D

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

Wait so it's routed for a trem??

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

its not routed at all thats the thing lol

its screwed on to the top of the guitar

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

LOL that sucks...Just call a couple techs and ask the price, the yellow pages work wonderfully.

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

Assuming you don't need to do any filling of the wood, and you're just drilling holes, it shouldn't be expensive at all. Now if it involves routing parts of the body, then you're looking at a more involved and expensive repair. But if you're just drilling holes, that shouldn't be expensive at all.

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

well from what i know, its only drilling holes for the strings to come through, and screwing the thing into the body at the right place

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

If you have a steady hand you can probably do it yourself, just make sure your new bridge fits, check the spacing ect.

Re: Cost of fitting a new bridge?

string spacing is from E - E, not edge of saddle to edge of sadle right?

if thats the case it's correct
