Counterfeit Vapor Trail?

I just purchased a used Vapor Trail Delay off eBay and think I got a fake. After shopping around for a new delay pedal and reading all the great reviews I decided to get a Vapor Trail. I live in north Louisiana and about an hours drive to the nearest guitar store and exactly 100 miles from the closest Guitar Center. So, I pretty much have to order gear online unless I’m in the mood for a road trip. Anyway, I’ve been stoked about getting this pedal in and after work today I unboxed it, peeled the cheap-ass Modtone delay off the pedal board and slapped on the new Vapor Trail. I rarely read user manuals but this time I decided to take a look and noticed that there’s supposed to be a translucent delay knob. Well Sh*t! My pedal has three white knobs and a separate blue led just below and to the right of the delay knob. Just curious if anyone is familiar with a Vapor Trail with these features or if I got scammed. Thanks

Re: Counterfeit Vapor Trail?

There are 2 'versions' of the pedal. The first silver version was made overseas and has the translucent knob, with an LED in to indicate rate. Seymour Duncan then moved its entire pedal range to be manufactured in the US and the Vapor Trail changed cosmetics to become blue, and I think for a time they went with the three white knobs and separate LED for rate indication. Mostly they're now blue with the translucent knob.

Edit: I should also say, I'm pretty sure the circuit is identical in both versions. I have the silver one on my big board and it's great.

Yeah man, if there were fake Vapors out there I highly doubt it’ be a one off situation? There’d be dozens or even hundreds of them, in which case there’d probably dozens or even hundreds of people online up in arms over it! I’m 99.999999% sure that you do indeed have a legit unit....

Welcome to the forum!
My guess is that yours is fine. We haven't seen fake SD pedals show up on this forum, so I doubt something like that is being copied. Show us a picture with your other pedals, though- we like to geek out on such things here.

Re: Counterfeit Vapor Trail?

Hey, thanks for putting my mind at ease. I scored a pretty good deal and thought for sure it was too good to be true. Hell yeah! Now I can plug in my Chibson and try this thing out!

Re: Counterfeit Vapor Trail?

However OP -yours isn't fake, BUT if their were Fake SD Vapor trail pedals showing up in the market, Forum members would be alarmed but really not too surprised -as we have all certainly seen fakes that defy logic in the overall effort required to do such -until you break down costs in emerging markets to produce fakes -there is decent money in most fake efforts -otherwise we wouldnt see so much faked from smaller companies. also a smaller company has less legal recourse and resource to stop it.
