Counting out triplets?

I am doing a picking exercise that is all in 8th note triplets. I am using a metronone to count it out. I read in a tab guide they are to be counted; one-trip-let, two trip-let-, three-trip-let ect. It feels very odd to me while i am doing this as if I ccan not get an even amount of space between the notes. Is this because your counting in threes and not in even increments like 1/4s, 8ths, 16ths, 32nds and so on? If anyone has experiance with this and can hepl out someone who is new to counting out triplets i wolud be most grateful. Also does anyone know how to count out 16th note triplets syllabicly? thanks.

Re: Counting out triplets?

I count

One-two-three
Two-two three
Three-two-three
Four-two-three

THough I think the way it´s in that tab guide wil be easier for most.....

Re: Counting out triplets?

I was taught "trip-pl-et" instead of the counting method. Triplets don't always occur in a place that lends itself to the counting method, according to my former teacher. But I don't suppose that one way is really any better than the other, so long as you can get the triplet in time.

Cool guys. I got it now!! Thanks Now how about 16th note triplets?
maybe
one two three
and two three
two two three
and two three
......
??? ;)
I just count the numbers and the "and" where
number = upstroke
and = downstroke
