Does a metal cover affect the tone or output of a humbucker pickup?

For intance, would a JB with no cover sound different or have more output than a JB with a metal cover?

PS: why do humbucker covers only expose one of the coils polls and not the poles for both coils?

Hello and welcome to the forums.....We "cover" this topic quite a bit...LOL...

Here's my opinions on it....I Like the looks of a cover on my Gibson style guitars...I feel there's a slight bit more highend shimmer with the cover off but it's pretty slight.

The cover also helps to quiet the pickup,but the output in both cases stays the same....So basically you get a bit more highend and less protection from noise and damage to the coils...

Since the pickup only has adjustable screws on one bobbin side of the pickup,it's the only side that has holes cut out in the cover...The other side of the pickup is flat bobbin metal..
