when it comes to humbuckers for "H-H pickup configured guitars" (LP, SG, super strats... etc), do you prefer covered pups (nickel/gold-plated) or the uncovered ones?
some preffer either of the two, or maybe both of 'em mixed together in the same axe. ppl have different preferences based on thier guitar's apperance and also for its tone.
generally, covered pups are made for aesthetic purposes. later on, pups were uncovered to make them hotter. that means that coverd pups tends to be warmer than uncoverd ones because they have more metal around them (more resistance).
1) some prefer coverd ones because with these, they are able to raise the pups and make them closer to the strings. they are normaly coverd with nickel or gold-plated to give the guitar a classic look? some are polished while some are aged (rusty) for a more vintage look.
2) on the other hand, some prefer uncoverd ones because its bolder and hotter. because these are made of plastic, uncoverd ones come in differnt arrays of colors, from plain black to classic creme to retro bright pink. some mix them like creme with black, which was recognized as the zebra. dimarzio also offers chrome plated uncovered pups, which is tottaly cool and unique, but freakin expensive (like $120) :irate:
3) some want to mix both worlds just for the sake of experimenting which is cool too.
does anybody hear likes mixing a covered pup with an uncoverd one in their HH guitars. it looks wierd but it personal preference. for me it makes a guitar have somewhat a "custom" look. i planning to make one my HH configured guitars to have a nickel coverd neck while it would have an uncovered one for the bridge. i dont know why, i just feel like doing it..:9: or maybe i want to make my neck pup warmer and the bridge hotter in this process. but im pretty sure this would just have minimal effect on the tone. what u think?
