covering an open pickup ,, is it possible?

I have an HFS pickup that I'd like to cover with a nickel plate. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so will it change the pickups characteristics.

I removed pickup plate covers in the past, just wanted to know if I could do the same in reverse on a HFS and Vintage Bass (PRS) pickups.

I don't know what an HFS pickup is...I'll assume it's a humbucker...

If you use a nickel/silver cover you shouldn't notice any change in tone. If you use a cheap brass cover, it'll muddy/darken the tone.

The HFS is a stock humbucker used on Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 guitars.

Yeah, if I went ahead and covered them I would definitely use top line nickel/silver covers.
