Crap!

Well, the pickguard for my strat project came in today, so I got it all shielded up and set out to start wiring up the controls. Well, before I got too far into it I wanted to double check that the knobs would fit on the pot shafts, which they did. Except the bottom of the knob sits about 1/4" off the face of the pickguard :(. Wrong pot shaft length in the CTS kit I got from guitarelectronics.com.

It's going to be one of those days.

Re: Crap!

Oh well, no biggie. I'll just sell these pots or toss 'em in the parts bin and get the right ones. This thing is starting to look great so I can't be bothered by something so trivial right now :).

Re: Crap!

Hmm, maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but it's normal for the knobs to sit slightly higher off the face of the guitar. All three of my guitars are like that. If you accidentally bought long shaft pots instead of short shaft, just use the hex nuts to adjust the height at which the pot is mounted in the pickguard.

Re: Crap!

Sweet! It's gonna look great when it's finished. Just hang in there. It'll work out.

Re: Crap!

Well, the knobs actually sat pretty high off the face, but I just went and picked up a few washers (I couldn't find similar hex nuts anywhere in town) that I'll stack up between the pot casing and the underside of the guard to get the height where I want.

Re: Crap!

Just a word of caution, chrome barrel knobs usually require solid shaft pots, while Strat-style knobs require split shaft pots...found that one out the hard way. :smack:

Re: Crap!

Yeah, I just tried sticking the knobs from my Schecter on these pots to see what they'd look like and they don't work haha. I could probably ream them out if I really wanted to, but it's no biggie. I like the white knobs too.

Re: Crap!

Chrome knobs require solid shaft pots? I've never had a need for them, I just screw the set screw in, and they stay fine.

Re: Crap!

The knobs on my Schecter don't have set screws, they're just push on. Sounds like I should be able to find some that might work here :).

Re: Crap!

pearl white on flat grey...i didn't see that combo comming...yet, it's kinda cool i think it would need black pickups and knobs for sure though white would looked too washed out with a dark flat grey body IMO...i woulda went with a chrome fender guard or matte black but that's just me i like all my guitars to stand out and look like hot rods :) should be cool though!! what neck is going on it again?

Re: Crap!

The body isn't gray though, it's gunmetal blue (looks either blue or green depending on the light, but it's not coming out very well in pics). The neck is coming from USA Customs, birdseye maple with abalone inlays.

Re: Crap!

Actually the pics up top do fairly good justice as far as pics go, the first w/out flash looks green on my monitor and the second looks blue.
