Crate Amps

I recently went to Guitar Center and played the GT1200H amp head. I was blown away how good this amp sounded. The cleans are crystal clear and the 2 distortion channels flat out rocked. Great for blues and metal. The reverb sounds really good. Crate has the Flexwave Evolution 5 built in that makes it sound very similar to a tube amp. I've played many other heads twice the price that didn't come close to the tone of the Crate. The good thing about the GT1200H is it's only $299. I like it. I think I'm buying one soon.

Any of you own the GT1200H? How do you like it?

Re: Crate Amps

I own the combo version and i like it. I once had a soundman ask me how i modded it to sound good.

They are pretty good amps and are pretty versatile they do have some downsides(the speakers they use in their 12" combos suck when you first get them, they are just rumble and shriek,no mids at all. But after a week or so of playing thet break in). I dont know about the"sounds like tubes" thing per se, but they do have a pleasent all their own sound.

Re: Crate Amps

Erm... I don't man to sound sceptical, but isn't the notion of an amp being great for metal and blues a bit of a juxtoposition? Tone-wise I would have previously thought that the typical tones from two such genres are almost opposites through a tone spectrum. I'm not sure though, hopefully this bump will bring your thread to the attention of someone much better informed to help you.

Well you can use the dual distortion channel for metal and the other more mild distortion for bluesier sounds. Thats what i do.
