Crate Blue Voodoo

Hey guys, I found a Crate Blue Voodoo 120W Head with 4x12 Cabinet at a Pawn Shop for 800$. Is this a good deal? I believe the head is the older version and everything looked to be in good condition with brand new groove tubes. I did not get a chance to play it but plan on talking him down on this heavy sucker to 700$, that is if it is worth it. I really don't know what the used market is on these things, but here is the exact same head, I'm expecting it to sell for at least 600$, and this is just the head, without the matching cabinet! What do you say guys, Blue Voodoo, or no voodoo, 800$ price tag?

Re: Crate Blue Voodoo

Too much... Those amps used hold zero value and will only get lower. I would not do it. I have owned a couple but always sell them.
Get a Laney AOR and a 4/12 for 400-500 and have a better sounding rig and a few hundy left over. I paid 220.00 for my AOR head and it is a keeper for sure.

Re: Crate Blue Voodoo

I have a 50 watter with 6 knobs. That 100 you linked is way to high price wise, he will never get that money for it. The 8 knob heads have more gain and tonal options, might have a bit more bottom end. But I have not had one to try out and see for sure. My 50 is great but I only like it on the low gain input with the amp dimed. I have a weber mass so I can crank it. You won't get to the crunch on that channel unless you open it up. The hi gain channel is a bit too bright for my tastes, these amps are easily tweaked so I know it would not be a big deal to have a tech guru mess with it.

I would pay 300 for a 100 watter and 200-275 for a 50 watt head. The low gain cranked is extremely vintage marshall like, that is what I love about it ( you gotta have an attenuuator to get to that sound though). Another option is the new Laneys which sell for 400-500 used and by all reports are extremely cool.

Few more options to check.

Peavey Ultra, very cool high gain heads with tons of verstility. 250.00-350.00 used
Peavey Classic head also sound great but are more vintage voiced,
Old Peavey Rock Master, Not the rack mount but the head. Very cool rock tones with that thing. 200.00 used

Line 6 Flextone III gets you some great sounds with FX. Pretty cheap used.

Re: Crate Blue Voodoo

Wow, $800! Are you kidding me???

As kevlar mentioned, $300 should be around the proper price for a used BV. Anything more is a joke. For $800, you might as well get a used Marshall.

Re: Crate Blue Voodoo

I've got a BV half stack and I only payed $1200-1400 for it BRAND NEW about 6 years ago. $800 seems a bit much for a used one.
