Crate Vintage Club 50 head

If you mean this one...I played with a dude who had one. I played it once and thought it had one of the best clean sounds I've ever played. Didn't mess with the dirt channel so I can't comment on it. I never heard him use it either as he used a Digitech floor unit to generate all distorted tones.

No, it isn't that one, it looks like this:

I found a pretty good offer on one, and it looks great (imo)...but how it sounds, I don't know.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

Cool amps. I have two freinds that own the combo and have gigged with em for 6 + years with no issue. Always sounds good and both have been extremely reliable with heavy use.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

I don't have any personal experience with one, but a friend of mine had one that he used with a marshall 4x12 in an emo/punk band. He got some really good crunch out of it and had one of the best live tones out of any local band i'd seen. Another guitarist was offering $700 for it because he liked it so much. I think it's the best sounding Crate i've ever come across.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

I think Jeffrec had one at the NY/LI jam ? Hope he'll chime in as to what model his amp is. I was loving the Tone I got from his amp. Warm ,Smooth and Fat. :D

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

Seriously, you folks think I should go for it? Would I regret it? Would I be able to get some rock tones out of it?

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

Those are nice. I really wish I had gotten one when I had the chance. The decision is all yours.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

Yes, of course, but you are the experts...And I thought that maybe you would know if it's a good catch for a young dude like me.

If I were in your position, i'd go for it. They can definity get some rock tones, if you need more gain just throw an OD in front of it to hit the amp harder.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

Well, thank you for your help. I'll try to get it if possible then.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

A local music store had one for sale and I tested guitars through it several times. It's an amazing sounding amp I had to keep looking at that Crate logo and shaking my head, it sounded good clean and distorted!

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

Cool, I'll try and get it for the price I want it for. I hope it'll be possible.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

I have the 50 watt 2x12 version of it and I ripped the crate (actually just screwed it off, but in a hurry) logo off so that people would judge it by the sound and not by the name. It's a really good amp for the price range and they're right, the clean sound on it is VERY good. I was very happy with mine, and while i don't use it still, it's always there for a backup and I love it.

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

I used to own a club 50 2x12, actually had it for 7 years, bought it new. Then a couple of years back I traded that for the new version the VFX 5212. I liked the clean on the club 50 better than the VFX. Gain wise depends there are not bad amps but for my taste can't say they are the best. I appreciated what they delivered, learned from the amp and about tube amps then I moved on to "better" or up the scale amps.......

The club 50 was very pedal friendly.......very nice amp.....

Re: Crate Vintage Club 50 head

Hmm, I'm having doubts whether I should buy it or not.. Do you think it would work well with my JB/Jazz axe? Also, does anyone know where there's any soundclips with it?
