Crazy 8s and frequency response

Hello friends:

Hate to beat a dead horse with the Alnico 8 threads lately, but I only became aware of the Crazy 8 recently when checking out the new Lynch pickup.

1) I don't see much conversation about custom shop jobs here, so I thought I'd ask about a JB8/Alt8/Crazy 8 comparison.

2) As a second question, does anyone know what Seymour considers to be the approximate frequency bands for low/mid/high? I find the reliability of the tone charts to be suspect. A JB only has 5 on bass but to me it should be much more. All the same, an EMTY has 5 on the lows and it is a much tighter pickup.

Some people probably think that how tight a pickup's low end is shouldn't affect the bass rating, but to me, if the bass is looser and more audible as a result, the bass rating should be higher.

I realize this isn't an exact science but I'd like to be able to use the tone charts to get an idea of what the pickup sounds like.

For my purposes, to me, lows are about 0-200hz, low mids 200-1000hz, high mids from about 1000-3000hz, and highs above 3000hz.

Normally, for a tight metal sound, I roll off below about 100-200hz, and cut above 5000hz, to get rid of most of the clutter. Anything above 5000 is usually cymbal territory.

Thanks.

Re: Crazy 8s and frequency response

Well, the Crazy 8 has a nasally sound to it... for some reason. I have an AlNiCo 8 / A3 in my bridge Phat Cat and it does not have that nasally characteristic. Just two observations - hope it helps a little.
