Crazy hypothetical project question!

korovamilkdud

WhoDatologist
Thought just popped into my tiny little brain about possibly digging into my Les Paul Studio to make a space for a 3rd (middle) humbucker.

(not to worry I have a junker guitar I can practice on)

But my questions would be,

1.What tools do I need?
2.What's a good middle pickup for my current setup? \/ \/ \/
3.Do we have a schematic?
4.Any ideas on how to approach this project?
5.How will my overall tone be affected?
6.What's the average air velocity of a north african swallow?

1. A very sharp knife for some expert carving

2. Fender DH1

3. Who needs one? Just follow your gut instinct. It's always right, ya know?

4. Very very slowly, since it might just bite (or at least go out of tune).

5. You might sound scared and start screaming about how your life is about to end etc.

6. Roughly.........not being too precise..... 612784.989382 miles p/hour

.............anyway............now for someone with a serious post........ (although you did ask for this by putting question 6! :D)

By the way, I love Monty Python. :arms: :drive:

Re: Crazy hypothetical project question!

Eek. Wouldn't try that on anything other than a crap guitar for the first time. You'd have to do plenty more routing... Good job it was just a "hypothetical" project.

IMO you should be shot for considering doing this to a Gibson, but it´s your axe ;)

(not to worry I have a junker guitar I can practice on)
Doesn´t change my Opinion :D

But my questions would be,
Yes, Swallow loving Guitar-Mangler...?

1.What tools do I need?
Ideally a router, a ball-bearing bit for that router, and a routing template. For the Latter 2, www.stewmac.com . Can also be done with a good, sharp chisel, or a Forstner bit, but I´d prefer to see it routed as would most others.

2.What's a good middle pickup for my current setup? \/ \/ \/
What´s around it and what do ya wanna use it fer?

3.Do we have a schematic?
Standard 3 way, Gibson website. Funky Ideas: Shoot away, ArtieToo or Kent_S will find this thread sooner or later ;)

4.Any ideas on how to approach this project?
Very slowly and with as much information as you can gather. Dan Erlewine´s "Guitar Player Repair Guide" (Also www.stewmac.com ) is a good place to start.

5.How will my overall tone be affected?
Minimally, cant predict how. But hey, you´re getting a third Pickup

6.What's the average air velocity of a north african swallow?
With or without a Coconut? :laugh2:
