Crazy Purchase Story!!!

I think this is nuts.

About 12 years ago I got rid of my 1 and only tube amp (Traynor 1x12) and I had two pedals - a Fender PT-100 tuner and a Metal Muff overdrive. I sold them on ebay and focused on solid state and digital modelling. As some of you know, I recently became interested in tube amps again, and also building a proper pedal board. I've been doing research on pedals and effects and using YouTube to see pedal tests and reviews. I have bought a few pedals and will continue to buy some and test them out.

Yesterday I decided to look for a pedal tuner - don't really NEED one, but much easier than using my iphone app all the time. So I was looking at all the newer tuner types both on Reverb and Amazon. Eventually I decided to look at the old Fender PT tuners because I figured they were cheap and I knew they worked well. I found a few on Reverb all in the $25-30 range. Awesome.

I put an offer in on one of the tuners and the guy accepted the offer. While I was chatting with him I looked through the pictures again and IT IS THE SAME TUNER I SOLD 12 YEARS AGO!!!

The back of the tuner has my initials in sharpie - just like I did with a lot of my equipment back then. SERIOUSLY!!! The tuner is in Ohio now (I'm in CT) and the guy said he got it from another guy who was clearing out his electric rig about a month ago - locally. WHAT ARE THE FREAKING ODDS????

Re: Crazy Purchase Story!!!

Wow, that is pretty crazy. Welcome home, I guess!

Re: Crazy Purchase Story!!!

That is odd but awesome!
Not nearly as impressive: several years ago I bought Dan Erlwine's book on setting up guitars. Read it, kept it a while, then sold it when trying to declutter my bookcase. A couple years later I decided to pick up another copy just to have as a reference. Ordered a used copy online. Yep, it was the one I'd sold online a couple years before. I assume it's fate for me to have it.
Same with your tuner: keep it forever, even if you never ever use it!

Once again, The Great Material Continuum.
It literally gives the Q, and the rest of them, a run for their money.

Re: Crazy Purchase Story!!!

there was a story once about a lady and some childhood book she had
while she was on vacation in France she went into a bookstore
found a copy of the book and when she looked inside the cover
it had her name scribbled inside

Re: Crazy Purchase Story!!!

Gotta love when a piece of gear comes home!

Great Gear Regret: Saw my first old 79 Peavey Classic Amp in a pawn shop and didn't buy it back a decade or so after I sold it...

Re: Crazy Purchase Story!!!

I'm REALLY excited, because the arm on my Snark broke. Totally useless now!!!

Re: Crazy Purchase Story!!!

That’s awesome, congrats.
Not the same, but I sold a guitar back in 2010. Regretted it for many years but lived in Europe during that time so couldn’t get it back, shipping and fees etc were too much. The guy never played it and I bought it back from him in 2018 when I moved back to Canada. Had the same strings and everything. It’s great getting your old gear back.

Re: Crazy Purchase Story!!!

I just hope I find my 1966 Yamaha SA-5, nr. 374 (that was stolen from my home, while I was asleep on the couch)

... what a beautiful instrument. And in the hands of meth-heads...

I try not to think about it... :/
