crazy question, can this be done? amp mod

Can you take a combo amp and turn it into a head, say if you fabricate the head cabinet and place the chassis in it? I have a 1x12 combo that is only available as a combo but it's such a freakin cool amp I wouldn't mind to have it in a head version. it's 50 watt tube, and my question is, how would you get it to safely power a 4x12? It is switchable between 16 and 8 ohm, would that work? And then, what to do with the speaker wires? It already has an external speaker jack, but when you plug into that the 1x12 is still active.

this is not something I'd attempt on my own, but I'm just wondering if it's possible, if I could have an amp tech or modder do it.

It's possible. You'll need to make sure you match impedances when you run it into a cab. It shouldn't be too difficult if you are familiar with tube amps and electronics, but there might be other issues I'm not thinking of at the moment. If the same amp is available in a head, it might be cheaper and easier to sell it and buy the head.

the biggest issue is usually where to put the tubes, unless you want a huge head

physical issues are not issues at all, easy to build a frame for it and drop the chassis in. The issues are the impedances, wiring, electronic compensation.

it's not available in a head form either.

easy and simple to do. you just have to make sure of the dimensions. www.kressamps.com makes some decent cabs. bunch of others, too. go to the webervst forum. they have a quote form for cabinet making. check it out.
