Crazy wiring and I need help

Yeah - I know, the Spanish is tacky.

Anyway, here's what I'm shooting for -

2 humbuckers - one is DiMarzio, and the other is a Seymour Duncan, just to complicate things :smack:

To a 4-pole 3-way switch, Petrucci style, inner coils in parallel for middle position.

With the 50's mod wiring

Just to spice things up, I want to test Artie's adjust-a-split mod so that the humbuckers don't overpower the two split coils.

I did some editing in Paint to *MAYBE* get something down on paper, even though it doesn't include the adjust-a-split. Unfortunately I don't know how to post darn-tootin' pictures! And I thought I was tech savvy :yell:

Found a couple little mistakes, but easily correctable. (Click on little pics for larger pics.)

Here's yours:



Notice that you have both the tone pot and cap grounded. The pot would kill the output, and the cap would do nothing. Simple fix . . . just lift those two grounds and connect the cap to the pot.

Also, there's no need for the pup grounds to go to the switch. It just makes the wiring needlessly complicated. And, you had the wrong colors in some places.

It should all look like this:

Edit: The "mistakes" are based on the assumption that DMZ and SD pups are "in-phase" when connected normally. If thats not true, then I'll need to re-evaluate that. (I've never used DMZ's before.)

Artie, this looks great! My electrical knowledge is very limited so I had no idea about that double-grounding issue, but it surely makes a ton of sense. As far as the phase issue goes, I assume they will be in phase, but there's no way of knowing for sure :smack: .

Anyhow, if you are up to a little bit more work, I was just wondering what it would look like if you threw the adjust-a-splits in there, to level out the series pups and the split-parallel middle position. However if its not needed, that's even better.

Sure thing, take your time. This is only hypothetical, and I don't have any of the components yet. But don't worry, all this work won't be in vain! As soon as the pieces come, this is how they will be hooked up.
